BIG GREEN EGG

http://biggreenegg.com/home.htm

Which grill & size?
--Big Green Egg, Large

How long you have had it/them?
--Since June 1999

How often do you use it/them?
--2-3 nights a week, year-round (including Canadian winters!)

How's it holding up?
--Great.  Areas of wear/rust are the lower vent and some spotting on the
nest.  Gasket replacement every 9 months to a year.

Table or nest?
--Nest; included in the sale, along with the old style fixed side tables for
a little over 1000 Canadian.

Customer service, (factory/distributor)?
--The Canadian distributor (The Grill Guys: Brian and John) have been
fantastic and have personal contact with many, if not most, purchasers of the
product up here.

What you like most about it/them?
--The forum is a great place to meet folks, the Eggfest as well.  Local
support is good and it's been a really drawing card for guests on our deck when
we have company over.  We bought the Egg the same week we moved out of an
apartment into our first house together, so it has always been associated with
that freedom and expression you get when unsaddled from neighbors above, below and
on both sides of you!

What you like least about it/them?
--I try not to be negative, but from a Canadian consumer perspective, the
cost is an issue (now up to $1200 bare bones, I am told), and also from a
competitive barbecue angle, it is cumbersome to move and always exposed to
breakage when going from event to event.

Guess that's it!  Hope all is well and your 'comparison page' takes off!

Once a week Plus.  It's my "workhorse
How's it holding up?

(cracks only showed up about a week ago) (might be from my carrying it all over the state without proper cart and supports)
Table or nest?
Permanent type stand, no wheels, free standing
Customer service, (factory/distributor?
Factory, there are no distributors yet
What you like most about it/them?
Size.  Available options.  3 cooking levels, optional gas burner for quick lighting of the charcoal and boosting the temperature for higher temperature cooks.  Semi-portable

I didn't get the wheeled cart...coming soon.  (see Below)

Which grill & size?
Kamado #3 Tera Blue Mosaic Tile with Stainless Steel bands and grill
How long you have had it/them?
    4 months
How often do you use it/them?
    Several times a week
How's it holding up?
    Excellent
Table or nest?
    Stainless steel wheeled cart
Customer service, (factory/distributor?
    Factory
What you like most about it/them?
Perfect size for everyday cooking for 1 to 3 people.  The beautiful tiled appearance.  The optional gas burner.  I can fill it with charcoal, light the gas, go inside and before I build a pizza, I have a dome temperature of 600+ (less than 20 minutes).  2 cooking levels (3rd is available).  Almost portable enough, it is slowly taking the place of the #1. (but does any 1 person really need all 3?)
What you like least about it/them?
No regional distribution.  Long wait time from order time to delivery time.  (about 3 months, can be longer)
I didn't get all of them in Mosaic tiles.

I've never tried the #1 for temperature control.  Mostly grilling.
The #3 will cook up to three 5-6# pork butts at a time with excellent temperature control.
The #5 will cook up to six 5-6# pork butts at a time, or 3 butts and a 12 pound brisket at the same time.
The #5 will cook an 18 plus # turkey.

Sizes, compared to BGE since I don't know Primo's sizes:

#1 similar to a small BGE
#3 similar to a medium BGE
#5 similar to a large BGE

Kamado also has a #7 and a #9 with a #11 in production

Hope this is a help.
