Wash-over and house fires

30+ knot winds means it don't take but a few minutes.

Wind was blowing from left to right->

Starting to dry out some, it was 3 feet deep here last night->

Look, someone built a new deck all around the house->

Saturday water rescue drill at the Pier

This is where two currents meet->

Brad enters the water to place a tag line on pier pilings

Holds to piling as stranded swimmers have been found->

First attempt, rescue swimmer approaches victim->

Rescue swimmer has to be pulled back to shore due to current dragging him under the pier->

Brad turns lose of piling, drifts under pier, and is carried back to shore on the other side->

Simulated victim swims out again-> Rescue swimmer approaches->

Grabs and secures victim to be pulled to shore->

Waves and current are very tricky->

Surfer type waves rolling east with a 35 mph wind blowing against them->

Pelican Island continues to march north->

Two rescue swimmers heading to victim->

They make the grab and are pulled back to shore with a happy survivor-> Really windy day, but people still had a good time at the beach->

Washover is not too bad considering the winds and high tide-> Mounds of seafoam->

Walking tour of the East End from Audubon Place to the public pier and back down Bienville

Heading out on Audubon Place Beach->

Now this is how I would protect my foundation-> Heron tracks->

Getting down to Desoto Landing Beach->

This apparently is a drain from the mini-lagoon between houses and beach at Desoto Landing->

Golf Course/POA Beach area-> Once was the 3rd hole->

Careful where you step, the grass is busy drawing designs in the sand->

Where there was sea oats, there was no damage->

Looking across from beach to clubhouse-> This just floated up->

Yes the POA Beach has benches-> Yes the POA Beach has a shower->

The only waves around and they are caused by current squeezing through the narrow pass-> Debris line way short of the big dune->

The new bridge to Pelican Island, formerly Public Fishing Pier->

Evidence of swift current running west to east-> Cool layer in limestone rock->

Small part of new condo-> New well to supply condo growth->

New development happening-> New bike path->

Walking tour of the East End from Audubon Place, around the Fort, and back to Audubon Bird Sanctuary

Debris mat is about head high near the dune as I stand at waters edge->

Same here-> Yup, about head high(Coast Guard Rental)->

Hey Buffalo Fred-> Stiff breeze from north but not too cold->

Between campground and Coast Guard Base->

BillyGoat Hole area->

Very plush oyster boat-> Oystermens main office complex->

The breeze never wavers->

Ferry's running, but the crowds are just overwhelming->

Good thing a kid wasn't standing beside their car->

Bird Sanctuary->

Lots of little fishes->  Some toss coins and make a wish->

Well thank God this is a public area, or the fish wouldn't have camera batteries->

Or beer bottles, or MardiGras beads-> <-This is the type people we bitch about all the time. This is the results of the public as we know them.

___________________________________________________________________________

Ahh, the sights and sounds of the PUBLIC

This is a popular illegal parking spot for beach goers->

This is an out-of-control spin-out-><-The skid marks go from front edge of photo to my Bronco.

Hard to imagine getting that much distance from a spin while driving the speed limit->

Careful where you cast your bait. You could catch a nesting pelican.

January 18, 2006

Wow, power poles are up past Frans house->

This is the clay base I was talking about->

Pretty shapes->

Wind-blown sand-> Notice every tiny thing holds sand->

Down on Strand Ct. Pretty high water cause this damage->  Notice the pilings are gone, but the bolts, nuts, and large washers are still there-> This house did the damage-> It would be hard to cut this deep with an axe with just a single blow->

Sound side, debris field-><-Vacuum cleaner, microwave, dishwasher parts, carpet, leaf blower, and in the        same area was several nice toilet fixtures.

Dead baby porpoise on Gulf beach side->

But I did find some cool shells->
