Hey, we have a couple of our own who are venturing into the world of unique
rubs. I am testing the different tastes tomorrow. Well, this
is not a real test, because I won't test friends. But here is my attempt
at determining who's seasoning fits my taste better using chicken as a
victim.. As you can see in the first picture,
BlueSmoke(aka
Ken Stone) has two dogs in the fight. EZ Life and Gilded Splinters.
I have tried the EZ Life and it is supreme. Dr. Chicken's RoadKill
Whammo is a new taste that has already won Brined Chicken fans on Dauphin
Island, will be tested in a plain old seasoned chicken breast, grilled over
natural charcoal.
Of course,,
I always use buttermilk, as you all know.
Buttermilk is an excellent natural tenderizer, and a perfect carrier for
seasoning too.
Notice the different coloration of the spice blends.
And here notice the similarity of the yellow coloration in Gilded Splinters(at
upper right) and the RoadKill Whammo along the lower portion of the cutting
board. There are like chemicals in those two. Anyway,,
these three samples go on the OVAL tomorrow afternoon. I will post
the results and pictures on the Primo Forum.
NEXT DAY
Well here they are going on the grill with red potatoes. I leave the
taters open for a half hour or so to let the butter and seasoning capture some
smoke. The Roadkill Whammo seasoned breasts are the redish colored
three. The yellow shaded is Gilded Splinters seasoning, and the neutral
colored ones are the ones seasoned with EZ Life.
I'm cooking over direct heat on a lower grate setting, so the seasoning will
tend to burn,, or as us outdoor cooks call it, "darken". The heavily
seasoned buttermilk may have helped with the "darkening" too.
Okay I'm ready to try this.
I got a hunk of each. The only real problem with these seasonings is, they
are really very heavy. I could not get out of the recliner after eating
all that. I know this sounds like I am trying to keep from hurting Dr.
Chicken's and BlueSmoke's feeling, but they were all great. I enjoyed all
pieces of chicken and if I was a big boy and could have held another serving, I
could have just stabbed into the pan and been satisfied with whichever piece I
got. Good job on the blends guys.
